after 1 month



1 month ago a precious little girl was placed forever in our arms. She was unsure about her new mama and daddy. Slowly she let us love her, slowly she has given us her love in return. Only 1 month and we cannot imagine our lives without her. The first picture is us trying to force her to eat in Ethiopia. These next two pictures are from a date out with Daddy...she was the belle of the ball at that restaurant with all the staff wrapped around her finger.




She is up 2 pounds, 1.5 inches, 2 teeth, saying words, trying to walk, and just all around doing great!

    Blossoming already! You are a good mama! She will change even more in the next year! It's a miracle that unfolds throughout their lives. Love you!!

lessons of christmas: joseph and mary

In the wonderful busyness that surrounds this time of year it is easy to loose sight of the reason behind all the celebration.  The enormous gift of God.  The sacrifice of love.  The importance of those three words: God With Us.   And so for the days leading up to Christmas, I like to go back to the the original story in the Bible and to try to read it again.  Not as a memorized story, but one that holds new life and meaning.  This year as I have read and reread, I am captivated by Joseph and Mary.  Over and over again the story tells of their obedience resulting from their faith.   God says.  And they do. No hesitation. preparing for surgery: a surprise vacation

I LOVE surprises.  Kevin and I often joke that surprises are my love language.  Being the receiver of a surprise is almost as fun as planning one for someone else.  And this is why, a few weeks ago, I found myself wide awake the night before our big adventure. We did not tell anyone we were leaving.  In this world of social media, it really felt like we were sneaking away. There was and is so much to be done before Elie's surgery.  The November 3 date on the calender seems to be rushing at us with lightening speed.  If we went by to do lists we knew we needed to stay home and "get stuff done".   But something else was stirring in Kevin and I.  We needed to get away.  We needed to build a memory for our family that we could think back upon in the coming months.  We needed to spend time together away from the chaos of life.
