one family making a difference in Uganda

"He has told you, O Man, what is good and what does the LORD require of you but to do justice, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God." ~ Micah 6:8

Today I wanted to tell you about a family that I only met once face to face.   They are good friends of some of our good friends and well, that's how our worlds intersected a few years ago.  They are The Penner Family.  When I met Jenna two years ago, she shared that they were praying about moving their family to Uganda.  Her husband, Keith, is an anesthesiologist and God had given them a vision of using this talent for His kingdom in a place that is desperately under served by proficient medical care.  There are only 100 anesthetics for 2.2 million people in Uganda.... you can compare that to their home state of North Carolina where there are more than 3000 for only 9 million people.

After praying and planning and seeking and selling most of their possessions, they left early August and have begun their new life in Uganda.  They are the real thing.  Stepping out in faith and living out God's calling on their lives, willing to do the uncomfortable for God's kingdom.

Here is what they will be doing in Uganda in Keith's own words:
"I have been hired as the Operating Room Manager and Anesthetic Officer for Wentz Medical Center and will be paid a Ugandan salary for the position. My responsibilities will include the training of staff, proper storage and tracking of equipment and supplies, creating an operating schedule for the resident as well as visiting surgeons, providing anesthesia and any other jobs that need done. In keeping with the WMC mission statement (to extend partnerships to improve the quality of life of target populations) , I have accepted an invitation as an honorary lecturer at the Paramedical School of Makerere University as well as having the opportunity to visit outlying district hospitals for clinical education opportunities. After-hours, we  intend to fully invest ourselves in the life of Gaba Community Church, participating in various ministries such as marriage mentoring, cell groups, choir, and children’s ministry. This ministry and church gives us great access to be able to bring and demonstrate the love of the Gospel to the people of Uganda."

Please consider joining in their ministry in Uganda through prayer and financial giving.  You can learn more and sign up for updates here
