A day in the clouds

Before I left for China and we went into survival mode, we spent one morning in the clouds.  Talking about clouds, reading about clouds, looking at clouds, and doing some fun experiments.  We are starting to find a rhythm and I hope to do this again soon with Elie and Faith.  I'm sure it will be just as fun the second time around.  If you have never tried this with your crew, it is cheap and fun.

Start with a bar of Ivory soap.  I wasn't sure if they still made Ivory as I haven't used one since I was a child, but yep they are still out there.

Microwave bar of Ivory soap.  Experience the thrill of pushing the buttons.

Savor watching your child's face light up in pure joy as they watch the soap start to morph into a cloud.  Tell that part of your brain screaming your children are getting cancer by standing so close to the microwave to be quiet.

What type of cloud did you get?  What does it look like?  Apparently there are also lots of other cool things you can do with this exploded soap.  But we just threw it away when we were done, it's okay if you do that.

Next cloud activity.  We made different types of clouds out of shaving cream.  This lasted about 1 minute.

Then we wrote letters in the shaving cream.  This lasted another few minutes.

Next they just had fun with the shaving cream - sculpting and building. This activity then migrated to making concoctions in a bucket of water + shaving cream and then serving them out using our play dishes and bubbles wands.  This lasted the rest of the morning.

After about 15 minutes of shaving cream play, one child put shaving cream in another child's eyes.  This was after the specific instructions were given to not participate in this type of activity.  I was about to close down the whole operation, but decided instead to give grace and let the play continue.  So thankful that I did.  An entire morning of fun.
