Leaving on a Jet Plane


WE HAVE TICKETS!!!! We are just a few short days away from flying to Ethiopia and beginning our life as a family of 5. All documents found, all forms filed, all approvals obtained. After 2 years of paperwork, we will finally hold our baby girl in our arms.

Today I called the pediatrician and set up an appointment for when we get home. I couldn't stop smiling. It was wonderful to be able to make that phone call and to begin her journey towards healing.

The boys are beyond excited for their little sister to come home. Many times my Kody has prayed that God would bring home his little sister before he started 1st grade so he "could play with her, because once I start school I will be at school all day." Thank you God for answering a child's heartfelt prayer and bringing home his sister the week he begins his summer vacation. God is so good!

This picture is from Kody's "feelings class". The picture is of Faith knocking over the lamp and he is helping her pick it up. Atleast he has a realistic picture of what it will be like to have a baby in the house.

    Trust me, realistic pictures will bode well for everyone in the coming adjustment time. :) What a precious family you have! I am going to try to resist the urge to drive to meet you at the airport, but rest assured, I will drive SOON! As soon as you give me the all clear, we are ALL THERE! I love you and can't wait to hug you and your baby girl! Praying for you!

lessons of christmas: joseph and mary

In the wonderful busyness that surrounds this time of year it is easy to loose sight of the reason behind all the celebration.  The enormous gift of God.  The sacrifice of love.  The importance of those three words: God With Us.   And so for the days leading up to Christmas, I like to go back to the the original story in the Bible and to try to read it again.  Not as a memorized story, but one that holds new life and meaning.  This year as I have read and reread, I am captivated by Joseph and Mary.  Over and over again the story tells of their obedience resulting from their faith.   God says.  And they do. No hesitation. preparing for surgery: a surprise vacation

I LOVE surprises.  Kevin and I often joke that surprises are my love language.  Being the receiver of a surprise is almost as fun as planning one for someone else.  And this is why, a few weeks ago, I found myself wide awake the night before our big adventure. We did not tell anyone we were leaving.  In this world of social media, it really felt like we were sneaking away. There was and is so much to be done before Elie's surgery.  The November 3 date on the calender seems to be rushing at us with lightening speed.  If we went by to do lists we knew we needed to stay home and "get stuff done".   But something else was stirring in Kevin and I.  We needed to get away.  We needed to build a memory for our family that we could think back upon in the coming months.  We needed to spend time together away from the chaos of life.
