Update from our Adoption Agency

As of November 6, 2009, we estimate that the wait for children newborn to 24 months of age may now be approximately 16 - 24 months. The wait time for children over two years old may now be approximately 3 - 15 months. Ninety percent of our waiting families indicate to us that they prefer to receive the referral of a child who is under two years old, while currently about 33% of the children we serve fit that description.
So that we may better serve our existing clients, as of November 6, 2009, we have temporarily stopped accepting applications from applicants who are only open to receiving the referral of a child who is under 24 months of age.
These estimates may change (lengthen or shorten) again in the future based on trends that emerge (flexibility of waiting families, characteristics of children in need, length of in-country process, etc.). We recognize that wait times are stressful, but CHSFS is a child-centered agency and ethically, we must always first attempt to minimize the number of children who need homes. When this is not possible, we find permanent loving homes for them in the US and this process takes time. We regret the stress and uncertainty that a lengthened wait time may cause you, but at the same time we must adhere to the best available adoption practices that ensure professionalism, integrity and placement permanency. We thank you for sharing this value.

Sincerely,
The Ethiopia Team

  1. what does this mean?
are you all praying to adopt a child over the age of three?

still praying for you all. My co-worker Bonnie whose daugther and husband are in the same process were essentially told the same thing with Ethiopia

  2. So...I'm thinking we're with the same agency in MN. After we returned from Uganda we prayerfully decided to change our age from infant boy up to a boy age 4. We received a referral 3 days later for a 4 year old after having waited 1 year for an infant. I don't know anything at all about your situation but would certainly be willing to talk if you like! Any friend of Karen's is a friend of mine! :) Amy (amythesavage@gmail.com)
